What is love?
Is it a warm, fuzzy blanket tenderly enveloping the heart and soul? Love offers murmured assurances that amidst life's labyrinth lies the promise of a steadfast companion's presence. It's a magical force that illuminates our lives, like a thousand stars across the moonlit sky. It's a skipped heartbeat, a subtle flutter, a reminder that in a single glance, life's burdens can dissipate like morning mist under the sun. Love is what unfurls an ache in the heart, a melancholy echo of yearning in their absence. It’s when their embrace is a sanctuary, where the chaos of the world finds harmony in the familiarity of touch. It's a symphony of emotions, each note resonating with bliss and passion. It's a rebellion against the void, a defiance of that same meaningless that often threatens to consume us. It defies logic, yet imbues the chaos life with its true meaning and purpose.
Or is it a cruel, unforgiving beast? Is love just a cosmic joke—a cruel twist of fate? Love makes us open up our hearts and hand over a piece of it to someone who didn’t even ask for it. Love dares you to dream, only to brutally rip apart the wings with which you dreamt of flying. It taunts you with the promise of eternal bliss, only to allow reality to deliver a stark awakening, a tight slap to the soul. Love is an illusion—a kaleidoscope that unveils a flawless vision, rendering you blind to their flaws and blemishes. It’s like a hard puzzle with pieces eternally missing, simply leaving you frustrated and incomplete. Love is a turbulent storm that seems deceptively calm at its arrival before leaving behind only obliteration in its wake. It is that thorny vine that ensnares us and smothers individuality and freedom, making escape seem impossible.
So, what is love? A benevolent force or a relentless punishment? As Shakespeare aptly noted, love is indeed a fire. But whether it warms your heart or burns down your house, you can never tell.
It's noteworthy how particularly hard it is to deploy subtle word play for themes as raw as love. While the prose distinguishes the author very well.. with topics so raw, I find shorter, sharper and crisper blows to the reader more impactful than long meandering imagery which tends to read rather dully. Great work nevertheless!
Love is often associated with all things sweet and warm, so capturing both the cold and uneasy feelings of love is often overlooked. The balance between the two is can be difficult as absorbing all the feelings that love evokes at once is no easy task. Beautifully written article that did indeed find the balance between the two :)
